Sleeping Beauty 55th Anniversary

Walt Disney's spectacular animated film "Sleeping Beauty" was released to theaters exactly 55 years ago on January 29, 1959. The movie was based on "La Belle au bois dormant" by Charles Perrault and "Little Briar Rose" by The Brothers Grimm.

Here's a wonderful documentary on the making of "Sleeping Beauty," incorporating some amazing original footage and interviews:

In celebration of this auspicious event, Disneyland is offering an awesome opportunity today for Annual Passport holders, including private screenings of the film, special character appearances, and some private evening hour access to selected Fantasyland attractions.

Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree Character Roundup

Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree in Frontierland is a fun stomping ground during your magical day at Disneyland park. The Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree Character Roundup is in full swing every Friday through Sunday. You can visit with some of your favorite Disney Characters, learn some rope tricks and dance to the sounds of a live piano.

Ride on the Monorail from Downtown Disney to Tomorrowland!

We learned a few days ago from Disney Legend Bob Gurr how the Monorail ride was conceptualized and created.

Now, thanks to the folks at TouringPlans, we can actually experience what it's like to ride the Monorail from the Downtown Disney station to the Tomorrowland station!

You do know about Hidden Mickeys, right?

Inaugural Tinker Bell 10K - 2014 Tinker Bell Half Marathon

On Saturday, January 18, thousands of runners participated in the Inaugural Tinker Bell 10K during the 2014 Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend. The race route went through Disneyland Park and Disney's California Adventure Park and the streets of Anaheim.

Tangled Show with Rapunzel and Flynn at Fantasy Faire at Disneyland!

Fantasy Faire is a special part of Disneyland where you can meet Disney princesses like Cinderella, Snow White, Aurora, and others in the Royal Hall, find special merchandise, and lots more!

Disneyland also produces fun and exciting live stage shows at the Royal Theatre at Fantasy Faire. And always with a "Happily Ever After" at the end!

An Evening Cruise on the Mark Twain!

Fantasmic! is a nighttime extravaganza featuring music, pyrotechnics, video projected on water, fiber optics, lasers and many more effects in Disneyland Park. It's an awesome show that everyone should have a chance to see!

Right now, though, the mechanical parts of the "Fantasmic!" show are currently undergoing a little repair and refurbishment. This has allowed the Mark Twain riverboat to offer some rare nighttime cruises on the Rivers of America!

During the recent holidays, Disneyland converted the "Jungle Cruise" into the "Jingle Cruise"!

The Pirate Fairy is Coming!

Tinker Bell and the Disney Fairies are off on their next adventure! Disneytoon Studios' "The Pirate Fairy" is the story of dust-keeper fairy Zarina and young pirate James.

When a misunderstood dust-keeper fairy named Zarina steals Pixie Hollow's all-important Blue Pixie Dust and flies away to join forces with the pirates of Skull Rock, Tinker Bell and her fairy friends must embark on the adventure of a lifetime to return it to its rightful place. However, in the midst of their pursuit of Zarina, Tink's world is turned upside down. She and her friends find that their respective talents have been switched and they have to race against time to retrieve the Blue Pixie Dust and return home to save Pixie Hollow. Inside Walt's Apartment with Diane Disney Miller at Disneyland Park

In this very special video, Walt Disney's daughter Diane gives us a private tour of the apartment that Walt used when he was staying at the park.

Diane passed away in November of last year. She and her husband Ron had seven children.

"Small World" Holiday Decorations

The holidays at Disneyland are almost completely over until next November!

On Tuesday, January 21, "it's a small world" will close for removal of its holiday decorations, and then will re-open with its regular overlay on Saturday, February 8.

The holiday decorations on "it's a small world" are very extensive! Watch the video below to see how much effort goes into transforming the ride for the holidays.

“Frozen” Wins the Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature

"Frozen" won the Golden Globe Award for the Best Animated Feature! The competing entries were "The Croods" and "Despicable Me 2."

Previous Disney/Pixar winners of this award include "Brave," "Toy Story 3," and "Cars."

Co-directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee accepted the award:

Aladdin at the Hyperion Theater in California Adventure

The production of "Aladdin" at the Hyperion Theater is a Broadway quality show, and a "must see" for anyone's first visit to California Adventure!

But please take note that the show will be taking a break from January 21 to February 20 for refurbishing and will not be available during those dates. So, if you can't wait until late February for your next dose of that Genie magic, you might want to hurry on down and see the show soon!

Haunted Mansion Holiday Version

The Haunted Mansion is closed right now, so that the holiday overlay decorations can be removed and the ride switched back to its normal appearance. It will re-open next Saturday, January 18.

Downtown Disney District at the Disneyland Resort

We enjoy going to the Downtown Disney District. Sometimes we don't even go into the parks! (Especially if it's too crowded in the parks.)

You can get to the regular Downtown Disney parking lot off Magic Way, between Disneyland Drive and Walnut Street. Parking is free for the first three hours, and an extra two hours may be had if your parking ticket is properly validated by a participating business.

The Disney hotels are all easily accessible from Downtown Disney, including their restaurants Napa Rose, Storytellers Cafe, Goofys Kitchen, PCH Grill, and more! (Secret tip: It is sometimes easier to find Disney characters at the hotels than it is in the parks!) We like to hang out at Trader Sams at the Disneyland Hotel - delicious eats and drinks!

Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room

The Enchanted Tiki Room is one of the oldest and most beloved attractions at Disneyland. It opened in 1963, and features Audio-animatronic birds, flowers, tikis and more serenading the guests.

Dancing in the Disneyland Mickey's Soundsational Parade: Every Role a Starring Role

Mickey's Soundsational Parade, one of Disneyland's most popular parades of all time, will be returning to the happy streets of Disneyland in less than two weeks, on January 17, 2014.

In this "Every Role A Starring Role" video, professional Disneyland parade performer Kelly Jean shows us all about how parade performers practice and perform their routines! Kelly is one of the dancers in the Aladdin section of the parade. They have some amazing costumes and perform some great dance routines!
